Excellence Cluster precicion medicine in chronic inflammation
Chronic inflammations of body organ boundary surfaces are considered to be the cause of many chronic diseases, which have been steadily increasing in recent decades – especially in western industrialized countries.
The Excellence Cluster “Precision Medicine in chronic Inflammation” examines key elements of the origins of inflammation on genetic, genomic and functional levels in order to decode the molecular basis of chronic inflammatory diseases and to identify metabolic and signaling pathways as an approach to therapies and prevention. Evolution of microbes and microbiomes is explicitly considered as a central factor in the progression or alternatively mitigation of disease.
