It is based on a joint effort of the Research Center Borstel (FZB), Kiel University (CAU) and the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology in Plön (MPI-EB). The overall objective of EvoLUNG is an enhanced understanding of serious lung diseases in consideration of the underlying evolutionary principles. This specific view may be used to develop new therapies for diseases such as asthma, tuberculosis, cystic fibrosis or chronic bronchitis. EvoLUNG thus creates an unparalleled interdisciplinary research environment in the field of evolutionary medicine.
