CLinician scientist program in evolutionary medicine (csem)

DFG funded program for "Clinical Researchers in Evolutionary Medicine"

The training program for clinician scientists is jointly organized by the Faculty of Medicine at Kiel University, the University Medical Center Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH), the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Biology in Plön (MPI-EB) and the Lung Clinic Grosshansdorf, and is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG).

The program is geared towards doctors during their specialist training. It enables them to gain professional training and an independent research career in an innovative medical field that is unique in Germany. The principles of evolutionary thinking and research are applied in the areas of antibiotic resistance, oncology, skin barrier function, inflammation, microbiome and aging research. In addition, we impart biomedical and evolutionary biological knowledge. The aim is to develop sustainable solutions for the current major challenges in medicine.
