The Kiel environment offers a graduate school for PhD students, centrally focused on evolution: the International Max-Planck Research School for Evolutionary Biology. This graduate school is a joint venture by the Max-Planck Institute in Plön, the Geomar, and also Kiel University. Moreover, the International Master’s program Molecular Biology and Evolution has a strong focus on evolutionary topics and specifically fosters evolutionary thinking across disciplines. The Kiel International Master’s program Medical Life Sciences also dedicates one of its focus areas to Evolutionary Medicine, thereby particularly promoting translational thinking among the students, which is the usage of evolutionary concepts to address medical problems.
